About the JAL Peer Support Program
The Peer Support Program, a program in which pilots provide mental support to other pilots, is currently attracting attention worldwide.
JPSP (JAL Peer Support Program) is an adaptation of the peer support program for Japan Airlines.
JPSP's Philosophy
"A Place for Everyone with a Mental Connection"
We will provide a place
where you can discuss your problems
to a trusted peer
You don't have to take your problems on yourself alone
This program is not intended to identify and eliminate pilots with mental problems.
Our program will support everyone to Return to Work
in a healthy condition (Fit for duty)
by talking with peers in an
Talk to your peers, in an environment where the principles of a fair culture are applied.
In doing so, they gain methods and insights to solve problems, and we support them until they return to their flight crew in a healthy condition (Fit for Duty).

JPSP Principles
JPSP will operate fairly based on the following three principles:
"Independence"
The company will prepare this program and provide the necessary support, but the program must always be neutral and not subject to outside intervention, including from the company.
"Confidentiality"
The consultant will be protected in a confidential environment.
Individual names and other personally identifiable information will not be disclosed to third parties without the consent of the individual.
"Clarity"
The operation of the program (not the data or information of the consulters) must always be public and its activities must be clear for all to see.
Safe Zone
(Confidential Environment)
We call the confidential environment within JPSP
the “safe zone".
Your personal information and the content of your consultation will not be shared with any third party (companies, unions etc) without your consent.
Even within the “safe zone" your counselor will not share
your information or content of your consultation to other peer without your consent.

JPSP is an organization consists of the following members
who are located within the safe zone.
1 Program Leader
The person ultimately responsible for running this program
3 Coordinators
Experienced peers and provide consultation and assistance to other peers.
Also receive consultations as peers.
Assist the Program Leader in the operation of JPSP.
22 Peers
Colleagues who have the same job with consulters.
They are educated in basic “listening" and counseling skills and have knowledge to be there for consulters regarding their problems and challenges.
Must be a person who respects and is trusted by colleagues.
1MHP (Mental Health Professional)
A clinical psychologist or equivalent, and is the only professional within the Safe Zone in this program. An important resource for the consultant and peer coordinators.
